What Causes Fluid Retention El tratamiento de Glomeruloesclerosis focal y segmentaria
What Causes Fluid Retention in Someone with FSGSFocal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a type of kidney disease that scars parts f the glomeruli, the filtering units of the kidney. Fluid retention is one of the common symptoms. What causes fluid retention in someone with FSGS?

Massive protein leakage
Protein and other chemicals in the blood exert an osmotic pressure which tends to pull fluid into the blood vessels. When large amounts of protein leaks out of the body, plasma colloid osmotic pressure declines so that fluid tends to leak out of the blood vessels into the body tissues, leading to fluid retention.

Impaired kidney function
Kidney is responsible for removing the excess fluid from the body. When your kidneys are scarred, excess fluid stays in the body.

Side effects of steroids
Steroids are common used drugs for FSGS patients to inhibit kidney inflammation and stop protein leakage. But they have many side effects, one of which is fluid retention.

Excessive salt intake
When you eat a lot of salt, you have to drink plenty of fluid to quench your thirst, which may worsen your edema. Besides, sodium retains fluid in the body, leading to fluid retention. That is why if you have heavy edema, you should limit the intake of salt.

How to deal with fluid retention for FSGS patients?

Diuretics are the medications that decrease urine production so as to help decrease fluid retention and edema. But the fundamental way is to repair the damaged kidneys and promote kidney function. For FSGS patients, 4M treatment (Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, Medicated Foot Bath, Mai Kang Composition and various medicinal soup) + biotherapy is a good choice. 4M treatment can set up a good blood environment for kidney self-healing and at the same time provides the damaged kidneys with essential nutrients, such as amino acids and vitamins to speed up their recovery, while biotherapy can regenerate new renal cells to take the place of the damaged ones to work. With the improvement of kidney function, excessive fluid can be discharged out of the body.
